What you need is a Scanner with Dia module (for instance an Epson Perfection 1240U Photo scanner, including Dia module), a Personal computer with a large hard disk, some good software and a lot of patience!
The procedure is based on 3 main steps:
1. Acquiring the film strips by the scanner
2. Converting the digital strips to frames
3. Sequencing the frames into an AVI file
At the end you will enjoy the power of non linear editing: you will be able to process your home movie by a plenty of commercial, shareware, freeware software, to improve the quality, add sound and music, and, why not?, produce DVD or VHS tapes for family amusement around the TV set.
