Sequencing the frames into an AVI file
The final step is building the AVI file from thousands of single frames.
Here there are lots of programs available (in the non linear video editing area), also very good. 8mm2avi allows you to do the work while remaining in the same program used for acquisition.
The codec can be chosen among the ones that are installed on your computer (see Control Panel, Multimedia, Devices, Video Compression Codecs).
I suggest to use DivX MPEG4 Hi-Res Video Codec, which is fast and provides full motion, high resolution, high quality video at low bitrate. It is available on the Web.
As a plus, 8mm2avi automatically relates the frame rate to the type of film (regular8 or super8). Moreover the sequencing rule is quite general (alphabetical order), differently from other programs that require a numerical sequence.
